Mirage hit PoE1 and, for once, I stopped speed-running out of habit. The Astral Realm is the reason. It doesn't feel like Wraeclast with a new coat of paint; it feels like you stepped sideways into something else entirely. You're hopping across thin platforms, staring into a blank void, and the game suddenly cares a lot about where your feet are. Even your prep changes—people I know are stocking up on PoE PC Currency early just to smooth out upgrades and mapping costs before they start poking around this place.

Getting your bearings in the Astral Realm

The first thing you notice is how the space messes with your instincts. The layout looks simple, then it isn't. Platforms drift, angles lie, and it's easy to overcommit to a dash or Flame Dash and end up clipping the edge. You'll learn fast to pause for half a second and read the room. Not in a "careful tactical" way, more like, "Don't be an idiot, there's no floor." Builds that normally bully content have to respect it too. Big damage helps, sure, but movement control and recovery matter more than you expect.

Saresh is a skill check, not a loot pinata

Necromancer Saresh is where Mirage stops being pretty sightseeing and starts asking questions. He doesn't just throw damage at you; he sets traps with the arena itself. Narrow lanes, bad footing, sudden pressure. If you've ever tried to facetank a boss while half-watching a video, this fight will punish that habit. His necrotic bursts come in rhythms you can learn, but you've got to stay calm enough to actually learn them. The clean attempts look almost slow: step, wait, dodge, punish, reset. The messy ones end with you getting shoved into the void and wondering why you got greedy.

Why exploration finally feels worth your time

What surprised me is how Mirage makes wandering feel like a choice with actual payoff. You'll spot a shimmer off to the side and think, "Probably nothing," then it turns into a tucked-away chest, a rift path, or a bit of lore that explains why Saresh is so obsessed with this realm. It's not just filler text either; it adds a bit of weight to the whole trip. Route planning becomes part of your run: 1) check the side platforms when your flasks are healthy, 2) grab the easy finds, 3) save the risky detours for when you've got an exit line in mind.

Keeping the pace without breaking your run

The best advice I can give is to treat Mirage like a marathon map, not a sprint. Bring movement you trust, keep one panic flask ready, and don't blow all your uptime chasing a "perfect" damage window. If you're the kind of player who'd rather spend time fighting than farming, it also helps to know you can top up gear or currency fast through services like U4GM, so you're not stuck doing dull prep when all you want is another crack at Saresh.
